I just received a call from "Telstra" saying I had infected files on my computer and they were going to disconnect my internet, they must think we are stupid. They are very quick to hang up when you say you are an IT tech yourself. Love leading them on though.

Similar experience to others. Caller identified himself as "Kevin Brown" from "Telstra International" - strong Indian accent, call centre noise in background, second call today, pushy and aggressive manner - and alleged that he was calling because of a problem with my Internet, asking "Are you sitting at your computer now?". When I asked for the number so I could call back he gave 0756 414156 or 76. When I mentioned the Do Not Call register, he hung up. Checked those numbers and both have what sounds like the same scam registered against them. Is this what happens when Australian businesses outsource their call centres to overseas countries?

This fraud is still happening. Indian guy called my parents tonight. Got my mum so flustered she gave him her credit card number. Luckily he couldn't get it to work so he kept hassling her and in the end she gave him my number to call so I could sort it out. I was immediately suspicious so got his number and name to call back, hung up and call felled Telstra.they knew about this fraud so I was able to get his number blocked and call mum straight back and give her the banks number so she could cancel her card. He was trying to get her pin, luckily she doesn't use a pin or she would have given him it. Naturally I have given her the trust no-one speech again.

Hi Guys
These people with an Indian accent say they are from Telstra. They have rang several times and I keep hanging up. In the last call I said I'm not interested in changing my internet provider. He raised his voice and said No we are her to help because we are getting error reports from your ip address. You need to log in now and I will advise you what to do. I said give me a phone number and I will call you back in 30 mins.. He waited for 5 mins then advised me 07 56414176 . His name was Michael ( Not a Indian Name).. Rang the number and no answer...Then I read the posts. Thanks!

This also happened to me, and i don't know how to check if my identity has been "stolen" as I went along, much to my shame. I hung up and switched my computer off just before i think the scam was completed, butdon't know how to check my ersonal security now. Any advice?

A customer called through to the ISP I work for today, he got the same thing, aggressive man from "Telstra" asking the same thing. I advised the customer to go to the government site,
https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/tag/reportascam/
and report the number

if anyone else has the same issue then please do the same.

'Thomas Perkins' just phoned me from this number (he sounded like an Indian calling from a Call Centre) claiming he was from Telstra Technical Services. He called back and insisted that I was in danger even after I had hung up on hearing his initial claim that my ISP, which he could not name ("Optus, PPT, Vodafone, ..."), had contacted Telstra because their email was being directed to my junk mail box.

He persisted even after I told him that I worked in the industry, even after I assured him that while I was not a certified Internet technician (he told me only such a bod could understand the problem) I had a pretty good grasp of network protocol and TCP/IP, and even after I suggested it might be time I called not only my ISP but the Police.

Oh, he did give me his employee ID: 8600063BC. Go figure!

Agressive phone call from 'Telstra' saying my internet is going to be cut off ... same as other comments ... I did not believe their hype and asked for a phone number to call them back on. I only hope other will google this phone number and get wise before they get hacked. :(

These people say they are from Telstra and that my internet is about to be cut off. They want me to sit in front of my computer and they will guide me through fixing it, as apparently, I have been hacked. They are from India and are shonky. Big pond have no problems with my internet, and have not been in contact with me. Telstra have done a search of this number and it does not belong to them. Be aware

aggressive gentleman from Telstra just called to inform me that my internetz was being hacked from South Africa and as a result would be cut off at 12 midnight. Our contract isn't with Telstra, so for the sake of entertainment, I let the phone call proceed as I knew the outcome would be a tad comical.

He instructed me to turn on my computer and type eventwvr in run to see all the hackers I have (which by the way is just an activity log). After we both agreed that this was both terribly scary and invasive, he hastily directed me to this website so he could block the hackers on my behalf: suptelstra.webs.com (LOLZ!!). Here, he told me to download a binary file - which essentially means that he could remotely access my computer...This was around the time I told him to eat of bowl of dick and ended the call.

I then called Telstra who said that the number they called me on wasn't associated with them in anyway. They also informed me that there has been a number of reports of poor souls falling victim to this and getting hacked (bank deets, email - all that kind of jazz). Please be weary of these jerk muppets, warn your friends and family and be sure to send me my badge for Internet Safety Office of the Year.

This number rang my home phone, spoke very aggressivly they sounded Indian and said they are cutting our internet off and our computer has been hacked. they tell us to turn on our computer. we hung up and they ring back and keep telling us not to hang up, they also told us to shut up no professional company would say that, they would not tell us what company they are from. This is obviously some sort of scam every body be aware and do not turn your computer on when they say so.

The caller purported to be Telstra and said my internet connection would be terminated because I had downloaded a virus. I asked for a callback number and was given the above which I then checked.

hey, this exact thing happened to my family today. Unfortunately it was my younger brother on the phone and he fell for the scam. he was on the phone for over an hour and had them controlling our computer. eventually, they opened a box asking to type in credit card details etc. for a $5 payment to get everything fixed. obviously at that point i stepped in and ended the conversation.
My problem now is, will they continue to have access to my computer? Should i wipe that computer completely?
Any response would be much appreciated.

I had a call from my parents in Tasmania (I live in NSW)asking me if I knew of any reason why Telstra would be calling them regarding their internet being cut off. My mum called me while my dad kept the guy on the phone. I could hear he went through a similar routine as mentioned in the other complaints. I could hear lots of other people in the background asking similar questions to other people. It would seem to me they are running some kind of call centre. I asked my dad to say he would need to call them back as they were late to go out and to get a phone number, which on checking brought me here. Please tell your friends.
