At this stage "she" texted my mobile and asked if "it" still is for sale as seen on gumtree. I replied "it is, ring me"

I was curious as to the phone number then I found this website and realize it's probably a scam. I won't be replying to any more calls or emails

So glad you guys posted about this! I was about to be scammed by the same person, just seemed fishy.

yes I also just got sent 2 texts from this #. first name was Julie Bennett and the next Pitt Ben. Wish I had seen this before I replied via email after the first text, I knew it was suss when they replied to my email with the give me your details and i will send a courier as i am too busy spiel. :(

I have also tried to be scammed by this person, I am so glad i googled this!

Yup this person is still going. Thank God for my gut feeling and thought of searching this mobile number on google, as the way that this man enquired anbout buying my car without looking at it and not trying to negotiate was a bit weird. Also by the looks of it he uses different name everytime, as he messaged me as Rice Eden. He asked me to reply via e-mail as he is working in New Zealand as an operation manager and can't access anything...he wants to buy my car for his son's graduation in NT and will arrange a pick...he also wanted to pay $300 in order to take the ad off gumtree. He asked for me contact details and address, but just before I do this I decided to search and that is when I read all of the above comments and just e-mailed him saying that I'm not selling anymore.

This scam is still going. John David jd78580@gmail.com texted me from 0428465117 about a truck I had advertised on Trade Trucks. Would pay $300 to take add straight off, very busy man working all day, working as sailor on board at moment no access to bank account but has ANZ bank linkup to Pay Pal send my bank account details has private courier agent to pick up truck. Did email him but when he wasn't sending any more info about himself we suspected scam. Thanks to websites like this that make it so easy to check these type of issues just by entering phone number.

A person by the name Michael Walker contacted me from an ad I placed on Gumtree. Didn't argue the price or the condition of the item I am selling but could not contact me directly due to working on a rig in Darwin. He was going to organise a courier to collect the item once funds were cleared. I have had this happen to me every time I advertise on Gumtree. I will never advertise with them again. Tired of it.

daughter got a txt then emails from same no. for her car advertised on gumtree. name tho was tony bell. she did give her name and address to him, aware of scam now, hope not to much damage done!

Scam - contacted me off an ad i have on Gumtree for a wedding dress. Sent me a text message asking me to email them. After i emailed them and received a very generic reply asking for the lowest price and also paypal details i googled the email and found all these threads. The name they used was Laura Solex with the email address of solexnooy7@gmail.com

So glad I googled "Julie Bennett gumtree scam" as I had a rather odd SMS from her from this mobile number about my furniture for sale on gumtree. Seemed too vague in the email (to which i was required to reply, not her mobile),
especially when I asked which ad in particular she was responding to as she did not specify but sent another generic email asking about the condition of the couches. English was quite stilted too. Not sure what she was planning to do but glad I trusted my intuition on this one and I will not pursue this any further that's for sure!

I have recieved a text asking me to email her , i had placed an advertisement on gumtree and , same thing she asked for my paypal details and said she would have private courier pick up the item , luckily my work collegue alerted me and i replied to jbennett making them aware that i was informing the police .

Thank goodness I googled this! I just received a text from this number regarding some furniture I've listed on Gumtree. Made me suspicious - texted to ask me to reply to her email (juliebennett001@hotmail.com). I emailed her and the response was curt, she refused to advise which ad she was responding to and was kind of rude/bossy.

I too received an email from "Julie Bennett" but I replied to her email before reading all of these.

On 15 Oct 2013 I posted an ad on Gumtree to sell my car. Within hours I received an sms from "Matt" using this number and requesting I contact him by email: matt.boyle232@gmail.com

On 4 November 2013 another sms from this number but using a different name: "Tana". I was asked to contact by email only: tmans278@live.com

This mobile texted me asking about my car on carsales.com. Told me that he had a company ready to pick up my car and transport it interstate. Just email my bank details to him and he would send it through Paypal. No argument about price and didn't even want to see it. Just too good to be true>

Just saw that this is a scam, with complaints dating back 9 months now. I have had these people contact me in last few days. What can we do to bring this to the attention of the right people?

Had same experience today, reply to my ad on Gumtree from a Julie Bennett. Text msg with request to email only. Emailed her and got this response:

Scam on gumtree - sent me a text message from Julie Bennett with a private email address to buy furniture without inspection and asked me to set up a paypal account and said a private courier would pick up the items. When requesting a phone call there was no further reponse. Lucky I googled the email address.

I also got one from Julie Bennett - TOTAL scammer!

She responded to an ad I had up on gumtree.

I got 2 texts for my add on gumtree, one is Scott salter and the other is Juliette Bennette. They both gave emails to msg on and were willing to buy without any inspection. The only way they wanted to make the payment was by bank transfer or paypal, no cash. BIGGEST SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How dumb so they think we r .

I just got a message from this number, about my ad on Gumtree, it caught my attention because they texted me but then asked me to reply to an email. Thankfully I googled the email address and this came up.

Same number, juliebennett001@hotmail.com email address, scammer. So glad ive got into the habit of just googling the email address's that i get just to do a quick background check. This number needs stopping.

All scammers don't bother trying to call the number it's switched off

I have received 3 sms's from this number using a different name & email each time. They are enquiring about the room I'm renting - however on checking both number & first email found they were scammers, plus other emails given are also on the list. From what I've learnt this number has been in use for over a year to scam people - yet still allowed to operate & no action taken against them.

Doesn't seem right with today's technology - I'm just ignoring them for now, but will go to the police if they contact me again in 2 weeks.

Also have email from first contact still as well. They keep asking for more photo's & want to pay in advance without meeting (not going to happen) and also address for moving company quote.

This person also trying to scam us by responding to our gumtree ad.
